Things To Do in Cockeysville, MD
One of the bright and growing portions of Baltimore County, MD, Cockeysville is a census-designated place that once was a central part of the railways going along the East Coast.
Originally named after the Cockey family, who helped establish the town, one of Cockeyville’s first homes in the area was built by Joshua Frederick Cockey in 1798. He built the first commercial structure, a hotel, in 1810. This is what would help spur the village of Cockeysville onward toward formation. In the 1830s, a train station was built that became a stop on the Pennsylvania Railroad.
Locally, there are a lot of interesting places to visit. The Grand Lodge of Maryland, Ancient, Free, and Accept Masons, features a castle-like structure known as Bonnie Blink. It is a retirement home for Master Masons, Eastern Star ladies, and eligible members. It is a lovely area, the Maryland Grand Lodge Museum being right nearby, featuring a rare Latin Bible from 1482, the desk that George Washington resigned his commission, and regalia of Maryland’s past Grand Masters.
